Performance evaluation of a new modular split‐tooth permanent magnet‐assisted switched reluctance motor

This study elaborates upon a new modular split-tooth permanent magnet-assisted switched reluctance motor (MSTPM-SRM). In the proposed topology, stator comprises six E-cores in which middle poles are split into two teeth. Two magnets (PMs) placed between each module's and side poles. Primarily, topology is introduced. Next, principle of operation elucidated, magnetic equivalent circuit analysis adopted order to validate operational basics. It proved that embedded PMs significantly increase air-gap's flux density adjusts poles' density. The distributions, static, steady-state characteristics MSTPM-SRM its PMless counterpart extracted by utilising 2-D finite element analysis. illustrated average torque dramatically increased compared counterpart, especially at high excitation currents. Furthermore, cogging done it shown structure has approximately zero torque. Finally, prototyping version fabricated, experimental results elicited. endorse simulation results.
